Dining Room

The Phillips loved to entertain and the dining room was the focal point of much of this.  The dining room table could be extended to seat eighteen.  The chandeliers in the dining and music rooms are Waterford crystal.  The walls are lined with silk damask.  Melting snow seeped through the walls one year causing water damage to the silk in the dining room.  Lee, the maid, said Mrs. Phillips turned the world upside down trying to replace the material, to no avail.  Notice the Philippine mahogany in this room.

It is believed that Frank sat on the fireplace end of the table and Jane sat on the other side.

There is a button under the table close to Jane's foot. During a dinner party, she was able to step on the button, notifying the servers in the Butler's pantry that she was ready for the next course to be served.

With the two doors, it was important for the serving staff to come in one door and out the other - thus avoiding messy collisions.

Table settings are changed periodically, displaying some of the many dishes Frank and Jane used.

The dining table can open up to seat 14 to 18 people.
