Since the beginning of 2005, the staff has gone into Bartlesville elementary schools to introduce the rich history of the Phillips era. The Friends of Frank Phillips Home have enhanced this experience by providing funding to bring students to the home for first hand exposure and hands on experiences. Most of these students are visiting the home for the first time and are thrilled and awed by their experience. “A large part of our mission is dedicated to supporting the area schools as they teach local, Oklahoma, and United States history. This includes elementary through university levels,” said Goss. Since January 2005, nearly 4,000 students from Oklahoma and Kansas have received guided tours that were presented on the students’ particular grade levels. Goss has established an intern program for college students interested in a museum career. The program became operational in the Fall 2006. |
During the 2005-2006 school year, the Frank Phillips Home hosted a workshop presented by Goss and the educational staff from Tulsa's Gilcrease Museum to Bartlesville’s elementary art teachers. The teachers took ideas back to the classroom that blended the teaching of various art forms with local and state history. Future educational workshops are being planned in which participants will literally “go into the field,” visiting important places in northeastern Oklahoma that relate to the Phillips family and the oil and cattle businesses, and Oklahoma’s rich Indian culture |
